Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them -- a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.
As a music educator, my role is to provide students with a variety of opportunities to grow and be successful, not just as musicians but also as global citizens. I believe all students have the right to create and perform in a safe and supportive environment. In my classes I always ensure to have multiple approaches for the students to use to understand and apply the topic for the day. A successful, enthusiastic music classroom requires differentiation so that every individual student feels comfortable to explore new paths of creativity, including the incorporation of technology.
By nurturing a safe space for my students, my hope is for them to clearly communicate their needs with me. Music education helps develop well-rounded individuals through collaboration and goal-oriented learning. The overall goal of my classroom is for students to learn how to use music performance and creation as a bridge to social, cognitive, and emotional aspects of everyday life.
